This section addresses some common questions about classical homeopathy, the individualised approach to consultations, and the practical aspects of seeking care.
Every individual and every experience of illness is unique. These answers offer an insight into my approach to understanding and supporting each person through the process of homeopathic care.
1. What is Classical Homeopathy?
Classical homeopathy is based on the understanding that every individual has a distinctive way of experiencing and expressing life, both in health and in illness.
These individual expressions can be observed at different levels — physical, emotional, mental and at a deeper level of experience. When explored carefully, they often reveal a recurring pattern that is unique to the individual. The physical and mental expressions are understood as different aspects of the same person.
The aim of classical homeopathy is to understand this underlying pattern and identify the single homeopathic remedy that most closely corresponds to it.
This understanding involves bringing together the individual’s experiences and characteristic expressions with the factual aspects of the case, including the Materia Medica and repertory rubrics. Neither is considered in isolation. The process is about seeing the whole person as a coherent picture and finding the closest possible remedy match.
My approach draws upon the classical foundations established by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, while also incorporating the contemporary understanding of individualisation, particularly the teachings of Dr. Rajan Sankaran, whose work has significantly influenced my practice.
Ultimately, classical homeopathy seeks to understand the individual behind the illness, rather than treating the illness as an isolated condition.
2. How is Homeopathic Treatment Individualised?
Every individual is unique, and so is their experience of illness. Individualised homeopathic treatment begins by understanding the person in front of the physician — their experiences, responses to situations, emotional and physical expressions, and the stage of life they are going through.
During case-taking, I give the individual the time, attention and space to express themselves as freely and openly as possible. Creating an atmosphere of safety and trust is essential. The consultation is not merely about collecting symptoms; it is about understanding the person behind those symptoms.
As the case unfolds, a deeper pattern often becomes apparent. This pattern may be expressed differently in health and in illness. When life’s challenges exceed a person’s capacity to cope, certain patterns may become more pronounced and begin to restrict their freedom and well-being.
The aim of treatment is not to change who a person fundamentally is, but to reduce the extent to which these patterns affect and limit their life. Over time, situations that once caused considerable distress may become easier to navigate. The person can begin to feel more at ease within themselves, even when the external circumstances have not changed.
This gradual reduction in the intensity and influence of the underlying pattern is what I refer to as dilution.
3. What Happens During the First Consultation?
The first consultation is an opportunity for you to share your story, your experiences and what has brought you to seek care.
I begin by creating a space where you can speak freely, without feeling judged or hurried. I listen carefully, allowing you to describe not only your physical concerns but also your experiences, responses to situations, emotions and anything else that feels important to you.
The consultation is not simply a process of collecting symptoms. It is an exploration of the individual as a whole. As you begin to speak about your life and experiences, the process of understanding your case — and, in many ways, the therapeutic process itself — begins.
Over the course of the consultation, I work towards understanding the deeper pattern underlying your experiences. This helps me arrive at an individualised homeopathic prescription and plan for follow-up.
There is no need to prepare a perfect account of your experiences. Simply come as you are, and share what you feel comfortable sharing.
4. Are Consultations Available Online and In Person?
Yes. I offer both online and in-person consultations.
The experience of the COVID-19 pandemic brought online consultations into wider use and opened up an opportunity to connect with individuals beyond my immediate geographical community. Over time, I have found that online consultations offer several practical advantages. They save travel time, energy and expense, and allow individuals to consult from the comfort and familiarity of their own surroundings.
Online consultations can be as meaningful and effective as in-person consultations. In some instances, the comfort and sense of safety of one’s own environment can make it easier to express oneself openly. The choice between online and in-person consultations can depend on the individual’s preference and the nature of the consultation.
I also offer in-person consultations in Pune through my association of over a year with Prana Homeopathic Yoga Centre (Prana HYC), Pune Highway, Pune, Maharashtra – 411005.
In-person appointments are presently available on Tuesdays between 4 pm and 8 pm, by prior appointment and in accordance with Prana HYC’s consultation protocols.
Prana HYC also offers online consultation slots with me through its booking website, subject to the availability displayed there. These online slots are not restricted to Tuesday timings. It is advisable to check with me before booking a slot through the Prana HYC website.
Both online and in-person consultations remain available, allowing us to choose an arrangement that best suits the individual’s needs.
5. How do I book an appointment?
Booking an appointment is simple, and advance booking is recommended for both first consultations and follow-up appointments.
Pre-booking helps ensure that adequate time is allocated for each consultation and that the physician is available and prepared for the case-taking or follow-up process.
For online consultations: You can use the Book a Consultation button on this website to access the online appointment booking facility. Select a suitable available slot and follow the instructions provided. You will receive the relevant booking details once your appointment is confirmed.
For in-person consultations: You can contact Dr. Atul Abhyankar directly through WhatsApp to enquire about availability and coordinate an appointment.

For consultations booked through Prana HYC, please refer to the information under the previous question about online and in-person consultations. It is advisable to coordinate with Dr. Atul before booking an online slot through the Prana HYC website.
6. How is patient confidentiality maintained?
Patient confidentiality is an essential part of my clinical practice.
Personal information, medical history and details shared during consultations are treated with respect and confidentiality. This information is used for purposes related to consultation, clinical understanding, documentation and continuity of care.
Consultations may be recorded for clinical documentation, case understanding and follow-up, but only with the individual’s informed consent. Any use of recordings for professional learning, academic discussion or public educational purposes requires separate consent appropriate to the intended use.
Patient information is not shared publicly or with unrelated third parties without appropriate authorisation, except where disclosure is required by law.
The website uses an external appointment-booking platform, Setmore, whose handling of booking information is governed by its own privacy policy.
For further details about the collection, use and protection of personal information, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
7. How long does homeopathic treatment take to show results?
The response to a homeopathic remedy is highly individual, just as the case itself is individual. Some changes may become noticeable soon after the remedy is given, while others unfold gradually over time.
A central endeavour of the homeopathic physician is to understand the deeper pattern of the individual and identify the remedy that corresponds as closely as possible to that pattern. This understanding is not limited to the presenting complaint. It involves recognising the person’s characteristic expressions at physical, mental, emotional and experiential levels.
The closer the correspondence between the remedy and the individual’s pattern, the more comprehensive the response may be. The changes can become evident at different levels of the person’s experience, and not necessarily only in the symptoms for which they initially sought consultation.
For instance, a person may consult for migraine headaches, but during subsequent follow-ups, we may also notice improvements in other concerns that were not initially mentioned or were not the primary focus of the consultation — perhaps a longstanding tendency towards constipation, changes in sleep, or greater ease in responding to everyday situations.
This is one of the interesting aspects of individualised homeopathic practice: we observe the person as a whole, rather than evaluating progress only through the complaint that brought them to us. As the underlying pattern shifts, changes may become apparent in several areas of life.
It is also important to recognise that improvement can occur at different levels. Functional changes, such as a reduction in the intensity and frequency of migraine headaches, may be noticed over a few weeks. Structural conditions, such as a uterine fibroid, are different. Associated symptoms may change, but any change in the size or structure of the fibroid needs to be assessed separately through appropriate medical evaluation and monitoring.
Therefore, there is no single timeline that applies to everyone. The nature and duration of the condition, the individual’s response and the level at which change is being assessed all matter.
The physician’s responsibility is to observe these changes carefully, reassess the case at every follow-up and continually work towards the closest possible understanding of the individual. The aim is to understand and support change in the person as a whole, not merely to pursue relief from an isolated symptom.
Homeopathic care should not replace appropriate medical evaluation or monitoring, particularly in structural conditions such as uterine fibroids.
